Papertype

Movable type for print made from paper. Being light and easy to carry in addition to being suited to mass production are distinct features unique to Papertype that had not been present in conventional metal and wooden movable type.

Above all, Papertype’s foremost distinguishing feature is that it can be fabricated. The type can be easily fabricated using common items, such as scissors and box cutters, allowing you to change the shape and surface of letters freely. You can create and print your own original letters.

You can also print with digital fonts in the main body of a document and Papertype (analog fonts) in the headings. The aim was to have a typography appearance which traverses back and forth between both digital and analog technologies.

Yes, it is indeed possible to innovate in fields that are ostensibly a thing of the past. Hand printing is a very ancient technique, and when we think of innovation we usually tend to think about current topics. However, we can use any invention from the past as a source of inspiration to keep moving forward. Additionally, I think this project has a remarkable aesthetic.
